Name: Khalid S. Al Nassar

Location: Saudi Arabia

Level: ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor

Born in the City of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia in a warm and loving home consisting of a large family, located right on the waterfront where I enjoyed swimming and fishing with friends or alone. I was good at gymnastics in school so I got chosen along with another student to perform in front of the King on his annual visit to our province. But unfortunately I was struck with a cyst in my left leg which impeded my movement so I was restricted to home for a long time due to plaster from toe to hip. As they say, sometimes inspiration comes from plight so I concentrated on my studies and I started to get high marks and as a matter of fact on the 7th, 8th and 9th Grade I was top in my class.

After graduation from Dammam High School I was sent to the United States and I chose to study Landscape Architecture, because it encompasses the area of Art, Architecture and Urban Design. I received a Bachelor Degree from the University of Washington in beautiful Seattle. In Seattle I discovered my talent to do sculpture, a hobby which unfortunately has not been practiced since my return home. I then had a chance to do my Master Degree in an environment reminiscent of home in arid Tuscon, Arizona. I enjoyed my study and I received a Certificate of Merit for Excellence as well. I was also a Teaching Assistant in the Design Course. In Arizona I was exposed to different cultures and I was fascinated by Spiritualism such as Buddhism, Zen, Hinduism, Christianity, and Judaism and with support of my Islamic background I was able to develop a very keen interest in the relationship between Spirit, Mind and Body.

My relationship with the French language goes long back since High school. It was a required course of study in High School during those days. Teaching French was minimal and it was not a commonly spoken language in Saudi Arabia. However I developed an interest in it and until now I am a student of this romantic language. It is fun to communicate in it when I am vacationing in France.

In the United States I also developed an interest to study History especially as I received a very inspiring introduction to it by studying the History of Architecture which was in the curriculum and because my interest branched to other areas of history. I am still pursuing History of the World to find common denominators in Human Civilization.

After Graduating from University I came back to Al Khobar and my first job was to manage Al Nassar Consulting Engineering Office which belonged to my elder brother, as an Administrator. This office was operating as a Joint Venture business with renowned Korean Architectural Consultants. I learnt a lot from that experience but I found my interests lie more in the Construction field which prompted me to establish my own construction company Al Nassar Trading & Contracting (NTC) in partnership with my younger brother which is now affiliated RANCO, an acronym of a Company owned in partnership with my family Al Nassar and another family Rabiah, which was established in 1950 . We are also affiliated with Dahma Company which is owned by myself and my younger brother specializing in the hospitality business. Dahma owns and runs a small boutique hotel as a franchisee of RAMADA Hotel Corporation.

My target in both Al Nassar Trading & Contracting and Dahma is to restructure those companies in their specialties in order to heighten its professionalism and broaden the base of its present and future shareholders. I have always been an avid reader and a world traveler. In London, England I have developed a refined taste for Theatre, Ballets and Opera. Also I am a frequent visitor to museums. As far as sports are concerned I used to play Tennis. However now my sport activities are limited to apparatus bicycling, walking and swimming.

As far as my living environment I have a home in my beloved City of Al Khobar where I live with my wife Shweikar who is an Interior Architect and my son Mashhoor, who graduated as an Interior Designer from London and now planning to go into Hotel Management. He is working with me in the organization to develop Hospitality business. In the City of Khobar I have acquired a land right on the beach-front in order to build a house, which is in direct relation to my childhood passion of being near the water. And even my two second-homes in Cannes and London are related to water since my Apartment in Cannes is only 5 minutes from the beach and in London my Apartment overlooks The Thames.

My contribution to my Society are represented as follows:

1) University of King Faisal- Part time teaching Landscape Architecture

2) Chairman of Consultative Council at the Environment Design College, KFUPM

3) Was Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Province

4) Member of the National Tourism Committee.

5) Was Member of the Eastern Province Tourism Council

6) At present Honorary Member of the Arab Child Rights Organization

My legacy in life that I would like to leave behind is to pursue an ambitious project which is in the making. This project concerns the Palm Tree, which is the symbol of Saudi Arabia. A friend of mine and I feel that a lot of added value products and bye-products ranging from liquid sugar to MDF boards can be manufactured from this generous desert tree. We want to make a sound contribution to the economy, and preserve a tradition of love and care to the PalmTree.
