Richard has over thirty years experience in the public sector mainly at the executive level. He was responsible for the Federal Government’s property portfolio, valued at over $2.5 billion. In this role he managed a capital programme of over $700 million a year; constructing a number of high rise office buildings for the government; developing a policy for mining on Commonwealth land; and promoting and managing the re-opening of Old Parliament House, Canberra, as a political museum and portrait gallery, to list a few activities.
In his role with the Department of Education in Queensland he built over forty schools and delivered the ‘Building Better Schools Program’ costing $400 million over five years.
As the Director of Policy in the Department of Emergency Services, he developed a range of policies to enhance public safety and actively promoted the use of land planning to mitigate natural disasters.
Richard strongly believes the link between personal fitness and mental health is critical in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He keeps fit through a range of activities including gym, running and walking and swimming. He has trekked to Mt Everest Base Camp and run four sub-3 hour marathons.
