When you’re creating a map, you may find that one of your branches is becoming a little overcrowded. Perhaps it would be better to explore the topic of this branch as a map in its own right? Well Child Maps let you do this. By clicking a button, you can convert any branch and its descendants into a spanking new Mind Map on a new clean canvas.

The clever part is that there is a little link on your Child Map that ties it back to the original branch, on the original parent map. This link, and the matching link on the original branch, act as a portal between the two maps – so you can flick back and forth when you need to. Great for exploring ideas in more depth without cluttering your main map, and still keeping it all connected.

There is no limit to how many levels of Child Maps you can make. You can create maps within maps within maps and so on, to create a cascade structure. This can be a very useful way to navigate through different layers of connected information, like a filing system or course content. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you want it to be.
